http://bjh.bethelsd.org/Bethel Junior High School is one of the schools in the
Bethel School District inPierce County, Washington founded back in 1958, and was rebuilt in 1992. Usually around 980 students attend the school, with at least 30% of the school being non-white.Events
Every year, a wide assortment of events take place at Bethel Jr. High, including Pep assemblies, performed by the school's
leadership class, sports events, school dances, after-schoolclubs , numerousfield trips , etc. The school is often considered to have the friendliest junior high staff in the district (proclaimed by its own teachers) which is why they dedicate 1 week called "Staff Appreciation Week". In honor, some of the school'sstaff are pied in the face by the students at organizedevents such as pep assemblies. The kids who set up all the pep assemblies and spirit days are Tabby Yu (President), Ember Woolwine (Vice President), Taylor Plog, Trayvon Foy, Kyle Knott, Austin Alexander, Phil Davis and other leadership students led by Leadership teacher Becky Thompson.Culture Fair is an event when8th grade students show off their board projects about their own cultural heritage and family history, viewed by themselves, adults, and the public. Activities like dances, videos, music ,food , and outside displays are hosted at the fair. Students are given several months to complete the project, though some kids are reluctant due to the massive amounts of effort and time that must be put into the project.A few days are set for kids to dress in odd, random, and wacky fashions such as, crazy hair day, twin-day (two students dress exactly alike), mitch-match day, fake-injury day, and spirit day. Spirit days are always Fridays when there's a major school sports event, or a pep assembly, in which kids dress up in school colors (blue and white) or soak their face, arms, and/or clothing in bulldog paw-prints and phrases to give support for BJH, and show school pride.
The kids who set up all the pep assemblies and spirit days are Tabby Yu(President), Ember Woolwine(Vice President),Taylor Plog, Trayvon Foy, Kyle Knott, Austin Alexander, Phil Davis and other leadership students led by Leadership teacher Becky Thompson.
Honors Celebration
An Honors celebration is held yearly for BJH
honors students at nearbyGraham-Kapowsin High School to celebrate students whose grades in the 1st semester balanced out to be a GPA of 3.7 or above. Normally, the occasion begins with a guest speaker talking about life experiences, share their wisdom, and advice for kids to use in future years. After the speech, 7th, 8th, then 9th grade kids walk onto the stage for awards, stickers, and individual pictures. Next, all of the students from one grade gather on stage for a group picture, and finally ending with a picture where every 7th, 8th, and 9th grader goes up for their photo together as a huge group. All teachers, students, and everyone else now exit the room heading for the main lobby where food & beverages are served, and parents can take snapshots of kids with their friends and teachers.Honors Celebrations are always held on a Thursday night.ee also
