Judith "Judy" Green (1931 - 2001) was a
New York novelist, socialite and philanthropist.She was born and brought up in New York, on Central Park West, the daughter of a wealthy businessman. From an early age she moved in social circles as well as among the tycoons of publishing and show business. She was related, on her mother's side, to
Dorothy Fields , the Broadway lyricist.When she was in her late 20s, she married a businessman, Bill Green who was almost twice her age and a good friend of
Frank Sinatra andEdgar Bronfman . A graduate ofVassar , Judy Green had already published her first novel. She went on to author three more books.Irving Lazar was her first agent and Bob Gottlieb was her editor.Marriage
The wife of businessman Bill Green, she resided on
Park Avenue . They formerly had an estate inMount Kisco where their guests included Frank and Barbara Sinatra, Ann and Morton Downey, Bennett and Phyllis Cerf, Rosalind Russell and Freddie Brisson, Claudette Colbert, and Pamela and Leland Hayward, among others.In his late sixties, Bill Green died suddenly of congestive heart failure, having been stricken while they were staying at
Claudette Colbert 's home inBarbados .The Greens had two children, a daughter, Christina (Mrs. Lloyd Gerry), and a son, Nicholas Green.
Death
She endured a 10 month-long battle with pancreatic and liver cancer. She died on
September 14 2001 at home, aged 69, having left the hospital for the last time on Monday,September 10 . Had she not done she would in all probability not have been able to be released due to the logistical problems caused by the9/11 attacks the following day.Links
