Czech football league system
- Czech football league system
The Czech football league system is a series of interconnected leagues for club football in the Czech Republic. The system has a hierarchical format with promotion and relegation between leagues at different levels, and hypothetically allows even the smallest club to rise to the very top of the system.
tructure
The system is bound together by the principle of promotion and relegation. That is, clubs that finish at the top of their league table are promoted to the next level of the pyramid, whilst teams that finish at the bottom are relegated to a lower division. This allows for the opportunity of even the lowliest club reaching the top of the league system.
At the top of the pyramid is the 1. Liga, known officially by its sponsnored name "Gambrinus liga". The bottom two teams from the 1. Liga are relegated to the second level: the Czech 2. Liga, also known as the "Druhá liga". Teams from 2. Liga are relegated into one of two regional leagues that occupy the third level: the Bohemian Football League ("ČFL") or the Moravian-Silesian Football League ("MSFL"). Directly below each of these two leagues are five further regional leagues that feed directly into the "ČFL" and the "MSFL". Both the "ČFL" and the "MSFL" are further divided in the fifth level of the table, where there are two groups of seven leagues running in parallel.
