- Vincent Strudwick (academic)
The Reverend Canon Professor Vincent Noel Harold Strudwick, BA, MA, DD, (b. 1932) is a British theologian and educationalist. His areas of expertise include sixteenth-century English history and the ecclesiology of Richard Hooker.
After serving as a
Pilot Officer in theRoyal Air Force , Strudwick entered Kelham Theological College (1952), which is run by theSociety of the Sacred Mission . He also studied at theUniversity of Nottingham , where he received aBachelor of Arts degree in history, as well as receiving aDiploma in Education from theUniversity of London (1959).In 1959 he was ordained deacon in the
Church of England and the following year he was ordained priest.He was a tutor at Kelham Theological College 1959-63 and Sub-Warden 1963-70. From 1970 until 1973 he served as Assistant Curate of
Crawley . From 1973 until 1977 he was Rector of Fittleworth and at the same time he became Adult Education Adviser for theDiocese of Chichester . He was Planning Officer for Education forMilton Keynes 1977-80.In 1980 he moved to
Oxford , becoming diocesan Director of Education until 1989, while also serving as Continuing Ministerial Education Adviser 1985-89. In 1989 he became Director of the Diocesan Institute for Theological Education, serving as Principal of the Oxford Ministry Course until 1994 and Principal of the St Albans and Oxford Ministry Course 1994-96.In 1994 he became a Fellow and Tutor of
Kellogg College, Oxford and a member of the Theology Faculty of theUniversity of Oxford , being granted the status of a Master of Arts in the university. He is now FellowEmeritus and Chamberlain. He serves as Director of Religious Studies for the Department of Continuing Education and has been acting Chaplain ofCorpus Christi College, Oxford . He teaches on numerous out-of-term programmes such as theSmithsonian at Oxford Seminar, theCouncil for Christian Colleges and Universities Oxford Summer Programme, the Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies, theGraduate Theological Foundation (at which he is Bishop John Tinsley Professor of Anglican Theology), and the Oxford University Summer Programme in Theology (for which he is Assistant Programme Director). He is visiting lecturer inAnglicanism atSt Stephen's House, Oxford .He also served as Assistant Curate of
Aylesbury withBierton andHulcott 1997-98.He has been an Honorary Canon of
