- Sakyo Komatsu
(born
January 28 ,1931 inOsaka ) is a Japanese science fiction writer and screenwriter. He is a graduate ofKyoto University where he studied Italian literature [http://www.centerforbookculture.org/review/02_2_inter/interview_masaki.html] . His career began in the 1960s and he has been called "The King of Japanese SF."In the West he might be best known for the novels "Japan Sinks" and "Sayonara Jupiter". He adapted both of them to films,
Japan Sinks andSayonara Jupiter (1984 film) . His story The Savage Mouth was translated byJudith Merril and has been anthologized.In
1984 , Komatsu served as a technical consultant for a live concert inLinz ,Austria by Japanese electronic composerIsao Tomita .Komatsu was one of two Author Guests of Honor at Nippon2007, the
