Daren King Born Hertfordshire, UK Occupation Writer; author Laurence Daren King is an award-winning contemporary English novelist. His debut novel, Boxy an Star, was shortlisted for the 1999 Guardian First Book Award and longlisted for the 1999 Booker Prize. He won first prize in the Nestle Children's Book Prize (6 to 8 year old category) in 2006. King was born in Hertfordshire and has lived most of his life in London.
Laurence Daren King left school with only one GCSE in English and worked in computing. He went on to take an A level in English, and then studied for a BA in English Literature.
