Robert C. Suggs

Robert C. Suggs (born 1943) is former Provost of Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio, United States. He retired in 2007.

Personal life

Suggs was born in Newport, Rhode Island. He married Mary Morrison in 1967. They have four children and three grandchildren.

Education

Suggs received a B.A. in Philosophy from Barrington College in 1967. He received both an M.S.(1971) and an Ed.D. (1979) in Counseling from the University at Albany, The State University of New York.

Work History

Suggs has worked as an Assistant Professor at State University of New York at Brockport (1972-1978), Millersville University of Pennsylvania (1982-1985) and University of Maryland Medical School (1983-1985). He was also Visiting Professor at Daystar University in Nairobi, Kenya, from 1985-1986. From 1980-1990, Suggs was Professor of Psychology and Chair of the Department at Messiah College in Grantham, Pennsylvania. While at Messiah, he developed and taught courses in neuropsychology. In 1990, Suggs was appointed to the position of Director of Personnel for the college. In 1992, Suggs accepted a position as Vice President and Dean of the College at Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He became Provost of Malone College in Canton, Ohio, in 1995 and assumed his current position as Provost of Ashland University in 2002. Suggs is also an ordained Baptist minister and an accomplished photographer.
