Mike LaFontaine

Mike LaFontaine is a fictional character played by Fred Willard in the Christopher Guest film "A Mighty Wind". He was known for the catch-phrase "Hey, Wha' happened?" from the fictitious 1970s US television show "Wha' happened?".

Other phrases he has claimed to have coined:

* "I don't think so!" (a phrase he claimed to be the first person to say on television)
* "I've got a weal wed wagon!"
* "Tha's right!"
* "I can't do my work!"

After "Wha' happened?" was cancelled due to what "Variety" called a "complete lack of interest," LaFontaine took his stand up routine to the cruise ship circuit, where he met a member of the folk group "The Main Street Singers". The group had broken up, but decided to re-form with new members, christening themselves "The New Main Street Singers". LaFontaine agreed to be their manager.

As their manager, LaFontaine once suggested that, during a number, a stagehand dump water on the whole group, "even the ladies!", then whispered something into the lead vocalist's ear, presumably something about being able to see through the women's clothing. He later went on to "write" ideas for sitcoms, including having the Main Street Singers dress up like babies and another where they all dwell in a house together as supreme court justices.
