Indus World School

Indus World School (IWS) is a chain of co-educational, K-12 schools promoted by the Nalanda Foundation (NF). In 2005, the first two of these were started in Indore and Hyderabad. Located on a campus of more than convert|5.5|acre|m2, these schools aim at providing affordable quality education. The junior school (up through Standard II) is called Ananda. The school with classes above Standard II is called Indus World School. The school currently has 700+ students studying in them up and run through till Standard VIII.Fact|date=February 2007 The school plans to gradually increase admissions up through Standard XII.

School Philosophy

The Indus World School was established by IIT and IIM alumni [cite news|date=2005-11-23|title=School of thought|work=The Hindu|author=Ranee Kumar|url=http://www.hindu.com/mp/2005/11/23/stories/2005112300910300.htm] who wished to create "a place of learning with a difference".

The USP of this school, according to Satya Narayanan R, founder and chairman of Career Launcher India Limited, would be that students would not be allowed to take tuition.Fact|date=February 2007 Narayanan argued that, "Students go for such tutorials because they do not get proper coaching at their schools/colleges. Our school will, therefore, restrict students from taking tuition and if a student underperforms or is not satisfied with the teaching procedure, the parents can question the school teachers themselves."Fact|date=February 2007

Curriculum

The school believes that no two children learn the same way and encourages the growth of multiple intelligence.Fact|date=February 2007 IWS encourages students to reach out to the community.

Subjects

Students at IWS are taught all the key subjects prescribed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).Fact|date=February 2007

Sports

Sports are an integral part of the school curriculum. Students are introduced to various sports and encouraged to make sports a part of their daily routine, in order to promote good health. Till class VI, all students are expected to play at least three sports. After class VI, students pick up the sport they enjoy the most and work at attaining a level of expertise in that sport.Fact|date=February 2007

Some of the sports that students at IWS have the option of taking up are: Cricket, Tennis, Basketball, Swimming, Football, Athletics, Hockey, and Badminton.

In class IX, students who show promise in a particular sport graduate to super-specialty sports academies.Fact|date=February 2007 These are residential academies where the students can hone their skills under the guidance of experienced coaches.

Other Activities

Besides academics and sports, the IWS curriculum also includes activities such as music, art, craft and dance (MACD).

Technology
