- Space Integrated GPS/INS (SIGI)
Space Integrated GPS/INS (SIGI) is a
strapdown Inertial Navigation Unit (INU) developed and built byHoneywell International to control and stabilizespacecraft during missions. It has integrated global positioning/inertial navigation to provide threenavigation solutions: "Pure inertial,GPS -only and blended GPS/INS". SIGI have been employed on theInternational Space Station [cite web | title=Lessons Leamed from Two Years of On-Orbit Global Positioning System Experience on International Space Station | work= PDF | publisher= NASA Johnson Space Center | url=http://ntrs.nasa.gov/archive/nasa/casi.ntrs.nasa.gov/20060020237_2006014558.pdf | accessdate=2006-09-27] , the JapaneseH-II Transfer Vehicle (HTV) [cite web | title=H-IIA Transfer Vehicle | work= Web Site | publisher= Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) | url=http://www.jaxa.jp/missions/projects/rockets/htv/backnumber_e.html | accessdate=2006-10-01] theBoeing X-37 [cite web | title=Independent Assessment of X-37 Safety & Mission Assurance Processes and Design Features | work= PDF | publisher= NASA Headquarters Office of Safety & Mission Assurance | url=http://pbma.nasa.gov/docs/public/pbma/casestudies/X37_Independent_Assessment_Report.pdf | accessdate=2006-09-27] andX-40 .SIGI is also proposed as the primary navigation system for the
Orion (spacecraft) , which is scheduled to replace theSpace Shuttle .technology-stub"'
