- Bootie (club night)
Bootie is the first and biggest club night in the United States dedicated solely to mashups and bootlegs. The monthly party began at the Cherry Bar (now Annie's Social Club) in
San Francisco in August 2003, and moved toDNA Lounge in March 2006. For over a year, it was the only club of its kind in America, and its creators, DJsAdrian & the Mysterious D , along with resident DJParty Ben , were instrumental in helping to popularize mashup culture on the West Coast. The club has showcased mashup DJs from around the globe, includingDsico ,McSleazy ,Go Home Productions ,DJ Zebra ,Evolution Control Committee ,dj BC , andLionel Vinyl as well as featuring a live house band,Smash-Up Derby , known as "the world's only mashup rock band."Hallmarks of the club include the infamous midnight mashup show, which feature drag and burlesque artists performing to mashups, along with giveaways of a monthly 10-track CD, which many club patrons collect. The night has been written about in national magazines such as Spin, Complex, and Club Systems International.
In July 2005, Adrian & the Mysterious D teamed up with DJ Paul V. and launched a sister club in Los Angeles called Bootie LA, which began at The Echo in Echo Park and is now held at the adjacent Echoplex. Numerous guest DJs have appeared, including some of the most famous names in the mashup world such as
Evolution Control Committee ,Party Ben ,Loo and Placido ,Mr. Fab , [http://www.illuminoids.com The Illuminoids] , andDJ Earworm .In February 2007, the promoters launched Bootie NYC in New York City.
