Martin Laporte

Martin Laporte

Martin Laporte is a franco-ontarian writer, comedian, irregular member of the improvisation show Improtéine, and respected judge of local and regional improv leagues. His daily e-mails, the "PDJ" (for "Pensées du jour", literally "Thoughts of the day") from the summer of 2002 and 2003 have already been published as the blue and red tomes. On December 18 2006, he published his third tome, the green tome, which were his PDJs from 2004.

The structure of his PDJs

* The salutation is usually a silly thing, such as "Hello my perfect teeth"
* There's a paragraph about anything that follows; sometimes it's about the news, sometimes it's about how he's incredibly bored, but it's always put in a very funny way.
* The thought of the day is inserted; one of my favorites is "It's not running with scissors that's dangerous, it's tripping and poking it in your eye."
* A little list of things follows, such as "The things you don't want your doctor to say when he looks at the x-rays of your broken arm":
## Oh my God!
## Fix your arm yourself, I'm not your slave!
## Hmmmm... I knew I should have taken those courses in physiology.
## Don't worry, it won't hurt; I'm drunk
## The last guy who came here with a broken arm like yours never hurt there again; we amputated him.
* There's usually a little conclusion, and then...
* ...he signs his e-mail by writing his first name, a silly thing, and then his last name
