The Astronautas (Portuguese for "Astronauts") are a Portuguese band featuring Carlos Oliveira, João Magalhães, Jorge Quadros, Manuel Baptista and Marcos Rosa.
The band recorded their first album "
Químicos do Céu " inCascais in July 1997. After its release in 1998, radio stations started playing several of the singles from it, such as "Passou um Anjo", "Porta para o Verão", "Suave Milagre" and "Químicos do Céu".In 1998, the band promoted the album through the media and live performances, while at the same time creating new songs that were then played on their tours throughout
Portugal . The band performed at Sony Plaza in June 1998 duringExpo 98 .In 2000, they recorded their second album in
Amadora .Jorge Quadros abandoned the project in order to return to his former band, theDelfins ; he was replaced on drums by Pedro Oliveira. Later on, Carlos Oliveira also left; he was replaced by Rui Ribeiro on bass guitar. The album "Dias de Fronteira " was finally released in November 2002 under the label of newly createdLemon Editions .The songs by the Astronautas are sung in Portuguese.
