Russian Space Research Institute

The Russian Space Research Institute ( _ru. Институт космических исследований Российской Академии Наук, Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Russian abbreviation: ИКИ РАН, IKI RAN) is the leading organization of the Russian Academy of Sciences on space exploration to benefit of the fundamental science.

The Institute conducts scientific researches in the fields of astrophysics, planetary science, solar physics, Sun-Earth relations, cosmic plasma and unlinear geophysics. IKI also performs scientific programs of space research, develops and tests space technologies in collaboration with Russian Academy of Sciences and Federal Space Agency.

Originally it was founded May 15, 1965 in Soviet Union by Council of Ministers decree #392-147 as Space Research Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences (Russian abbr.: ИКИ АН СССР, "IKI AN SSSR"). In 1992 it was renamed to present name. The Institute located in Moscow and has staff of 290 scientists.
