Leonardo Sbaraglia

Leonardo Sbaraglia

Leonardo Sbaraglia (middle name: "Máximo";Interview in the Spanish TV show Caiga Quien Caiga, broadcast on December 2, 2005.] born June 30, 1970 in Buenos Aires, Argentina) is an Argentine film actor.

Son of actress and theater teacher R. Randon, Leonardo Sbaraglia started his acting career already at the age of 16 in the film "La Noche de los lápices (Night of the Pencils)", a political documentary drama directed by Héctor Olivera.

In 1987, he gained popularity among Argentinian youth for his role in the TV series "Clave de sol". In the following years, he starred in TV and film productions as well as in the theater (e.g., in "La Soledad de los Campos de Algodon", "Closer").

In 1993, he worked for the first time together with Argentine director Marcelo Piñeyro in "". They came together again for "Caballos salvajes" (1995), for which Leonardo Sbaraglia earned the "Jury Price for Best Acting" at the "Festival de Cine Iberoamericano de Huelva", and later for "Cenizas del paraíso" (1997) and an acclaimed performance in "Plata quemada" (2000).

More recently, Sbaraglia has worked both in Spain, where he has spent most of the time, and in Argentina. In 2001, he starred with Eusebio Poncela in "Intacto" [Intact] , a thriller directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, and received a Goya Award for "Best New Actor". Further of his films include "Deseo" [Desire] (2002), a Gerardo Vera film in which he plays at the sides of Leonor Watling and Cecilia Roth, and "Carmen" (2003), an adaptation of Prosper Mérimée's classic by director Vicente Aranda.

In 2005, Sbaraglia worked again with director Antonio Hernández, with whom he had already shot "En la ciudad sin límites" in 2002. This and his contribution to Sebastián Borensztein's mini TV series "Tiempofinal" (2000) after their production of "El Garante" in 1997 have been the only two times that Sbaraglia has worked with any director on more than a single project since his collaborations with Piñeyro.

In 2007, Sbaraglia was nominated for the Goya Award for "Best Supporting Actor" for his role of "Jesús Irurre" in the film Salvador (Puig Antich) in which he starred at the side of Daniel Brühl.

In 2001, Sbaraglia married the Argentinian sculptor Guadalupe Martin; in the winter of 2006, [ [http://www.diarioperfil.com.ar/edimp/0148/esp_005.html diario perfil] , [http://www.decine21.com/Perfiles/Leonardo-Sbaraglia.asp decine12] ] their daughter Julia was born.
