Logan Tom is a fictional character from Terry Brooks' "Great Wars" trilogy of novel, written as a prequel to his "Shannara" series. A Knight of the Word, Logan's first appearance is in the book "Armageddon's Children".

Biography

Logan grew up in a compound with his family consisting of his parents and two siblings, Tyler and Megan. After a siege that left him as the only known survivor, Logan was taken in by a man named Michael Poole and his band of battle-hardened soldiers. Driven insane by the death of his second in command, Fresh, Michael led a vain effort to liberate the long-said impregnable Midline Slave Camp, after which Logan killed Michael in self-defense. Six weeks later, Logan was chosen by the Lady of the Word to be one of her agents and was then given a staff with magical properties once he accepted.

Logan later meets O'olish Amaneh, a prominent agent of the Word, who entrusts with the mission to find the gypsy morph, a magical creature who could potentially shift the balance to the human side. Because Nest Freemark, a magical savant, gave birth to the gypsy morph, Logan is given her bones so he may use them to locate it. He eventually finds the creature who has taken the form of a man called Hawk who is also the leader of a tribe called "The Ghosts". Unfortunately, Hawk and his girlfriend Tessa are sentenced to death when they're found guilty of stealing medical supplies for personal use.

In the Elves of Cintra, Logan discovers Hawk and Tessa were thrown from the walls only to be comnsumed by a white magic light. Unable to conclude if they are still in peril, he takes Hawk's family of Ghosts under his protection, fleeing from their home when a nearby compund is under siege from Findo Gask's hordes. The Lady appears to him, instructing him to find Hawk, the Gypsy Morph, by the Columbia River. He takes the slow journey from seattle to Columbia, encountering viscious killer robots made by Oronyx Experimental. After narrowly escaping with Fixit's help, they continue on until both Fixit and River are struck by plague. When in search of medecine Logan Tom encounters a half human, half lizard girl named Catalyta, or Cat. She finds him the medicine, on the condition that he helps her escape. He agrees, avoiding the wrath of The Senator (A Lizard Man, who claims ownership over Catalyta). On continuing their journey, Logan is ambushed on the Freeway, and taken to a man named Krilka Koos. Upon meeting the man he discovers it is a fellow Knight of the Word gone mad. He is forced to fight Krilka after refusing to join his fighters who disobey the Word's ideals. After feeling all is lost, Logan defeats Krilka, not being able to bring himself to murder. He is poisoned in the fight, and Panther and Catalyta remove him from Krilka Koos camp, trying to save him from the deadly poison.
