Pyrrolizidine alkaloids are a group of naturally occurring
alkaloid s based on the structure ofpyrrolizidine , of which there are over 300 known examples. They are found very frequently in plants in theBoraginaceae ,Compositae ,Orchidaceae andLeguminosae families; less frequently in theConvolvulaceae andPoaceae ,and in at least one species in theLamiaceae .
