Aaron Schock (born May 28, 1981) is a millionaire Republican member of the Illinois House of Representatives, representing the 92nd district since 2005. He defeated incumbent State Rep. Ricca Slone in 2004, and is currently the youngest member of the Illinois General Assembly.

Schock is the Republican nominee for U.S. Congress in Illinois' 18th congressional district to succeed retiring incumbent Republican Congressman Ray LaHood. Schock easily won the Republican primary with 71% of the vote, beating his opponents Jim McConoughey and John Morris. Schock was born in Peoria, Illinois to a doctor and graduated from Peoria's Richwoods High School. He attended an Apostolic Christian church, a fundamentalist denomination, into adulthood. In 2001, Schock was elected a member of the Peoria Public Schools District 150 school board at the age of 19 while attending Bradley University. As a write-in candidate, he defeated the incumbent school board president. After two years on the board, his fellow board members elected him vice president of the board, and a year later, unanimously elected him school board president.

Controversy

In his official announcement for candidacy for Congress, Schock suggested that the U.S. should sell nuclear weapons to Taiwan if China failed to follow U.S. policy in Iran. [ [http://www.pjstar.com/stories/020608/ELE_BFN516ON.025.php Schock claims victory] ] Schock drew mixed feelings in July 2008 when he brought George W. Bush to Peoria to campaign for him. Now, the city of Peoria is asking to be repaid the estimated $38,000 it paid to facilitate the visit. Schock calls it "a political move."
