"The Captain and the Kid" is the title and closing track of Elton John's album "The Captain & The Kid". The introduction to the song is almost identical to the opening title track of John's "Captain Fantastic & the Brown Dirt Cowboy". The lyrics allude to John's and Bernie Taupin's personas that they have made since they gained success. For instance, the lines "Shaped our futures; you a tumbleweed/and me on a yellow brick road" and "To turn you into the Brown Dirt Cowboy/and me into a rocket man" very directly compares the characters in the songs to their personalities.
