Balticconnector

Balticconnector

Balticconnector is a planned natural gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia, which would allow to connect the Baltics and Finnish gas grids. The aim of pipeline is to increase Finnish import capacities by using Latvia's natural gas storage facilities in Inčukalns. Balticconnector will assist ensuring security of gas supply in the region for both side.

The 80-120 km long DN 500 pipeline will be laid at seabed of the Gulf of Finland starting from Vuosaari (district of Helsinki) or Inkoo in Finland to Paldiski in Estonia. In Estonia the pipeline will be connected to the existing DN 700 transmission pipeline from Latvia. The import capacity of the new gas pipeline will be 2 billion cubic metres (bcm) per annum.cite news | url = http://www.upstreamonline.com/incoming/article134489.ece | title = Finns plan new subsea gas link | publisher = Upstream Online |date = 2007-05-31 | accessdate = 2007-10-13]

The pipeline's cost would be €100 million. The feasibility study was completed in May 2007 and the environmental impact assessment will be ready in 2008.The pipeline is expected to be ready by 2010. The consortium for development of pipeline is leaded by the Finnish natural gas company Gasum and it's including Eesti Gaas of Estonia, Latvijas Gāze of Latvia and Gazprom of Russia.
