Riverside High School is a four-year public high school located in Durham, North Carolina. The current principal is James F. Key III. Opened in 1991 (the first class graduated in 1993), the school currently enrolls approximately 2100 students and is one of seven high schools in the Durham Public School System. The school offers classes on a block schedule on a semester basis, with students taking 4 classes—generally 2 core and 2 elective—each semester. Riverside is an accredited school and is also home to the Durham Public Schools' pre-engineering curriculum which is part of the Project Lead the Way Program.

Riverside's sixteen sports teams are part of the PAC-6 Conference, which includes schools in Durham County and the neighboring counties of Orange and Person. The school has fielded several state champions in wrestling, men's lacrosse, and volleyball.

Recent Events

On October 5, 2006, a fourteen-year-old student was robbed behind the school around 3 p.m. The robbers stole $15 and an iPod, but no weapon was used. When the student told his mother, she took a rifle and searched for the thieves. Although the woman was only seen in the woods near the school, reports came in that someone was in the school with a weapon. This forced the four hundred students still in the school at 3 o'clock to go in a short lockdown. A Durham police officer's daughter sent a text message to him informing her about the lockdown. Soon police officers and sheriff's deputies entered the school. Only later did the students and teachers learn that in fact there were no weapons on campus at any time.
