Amy Agulay

Amy Agulay (born September 6, 1978 in London, Ontario) is a former field hockey goalkeeper from Canada, who earned a total number of 24 international caps for the Canadian Women's National Team during her career.

A former University of New Hampshire goalkeeper and Canadian National Team member, Amy Agulay is in her third season as an assistant field hockey coach at Syracuse University.

After graduating from UNH in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science and minors in biology and pre-medical studies, Agulay earned a spot on the Canadian National Field Hockey team as a goalkeeper. The Canadian team finished third in the 2001 Americas Cup in Jamaica which qualified it for the 2001 World Cup in France, where Team Canada finished seventh. Agulay also participated in the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester and has earned 25 international caps for Canada.

Following the Commonwealth Games, Agulay traveled abroad to join Hockey Club Breda in the Netherlands to compete in the Overgangsklasse Hockey Competition known as the top club hockey league in the world. During her two seasons at HC Breda, her team finished second in its respective conference and held the lowest goals-against average in the league.

She also played for the Toronto Goa Reds of the North American Premier League, an indoor winter circuit.

While playing for the Wildcats of New Hampshire, Agulay helped her team to the 1998 America East Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The ‘Cats qualified for the national tournament again in 2000 (Agulay’s senior year), when they also finished as runner-up in the America East Conference.

Agulay performed well in the classroom. She was awarded an NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship, named a Verizon/CoSIDA second-team all-District I Academic All-American in 2000 and was a three-time NFHCA National Academic Squad selection. On the field, she excelled as well. She was selected to the Northeast Region All-America Second Team in 2000 and to the First Team in 1999. She was also a two-time selection to the America East All-Conference First Team. In her senior season, Agulay set a school single-season record by playing the entire season -- 1652 minutes and six seconds -- in goal and her 204 saves ranked fourth in the nation. As a sophomore, she topped all Division I goalkeepers in save percentage and was second in total saves. Agulay left UNH as the career leader in games played, minutes and saves (827). She compiled a career record of 46-31 with a 1.96 GAA and a .841 save percentage.

A native of London, Ontario, Agulay was a volunteer assistant coach at UNH in 2002 and at Connecticut in 2003. She has coached Olympic Development for the U.S. Field Hockey Association, as well as the USFHA Futures program in New England. While at HC Breda, Agulay had the opportunity to coach a junior club team and was a specialist coach for goalkeepers.

Amy received a B.S. in Kinesiology: Exercise Science, minoring in Biology and Pre-Medical Studies from the University of New Hampshire. Currently, she is pursuing a master’s degree in nutrition, a Certificate of Advanced Study in Health Services Management and Policy, and a Master of Public Administration from the top ranked public affairs program in the United States; the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University.
