The Avicenna School, is a co-education school in Karachi, Pakistan. Its main campus is in Clifton, Karachi. It is named after the famous Muslim polymath Avicenna (Ibn Sina).

The Avicenna School, was founded in 1996, and sponsored by the College of Accounting and Management Sciences (CAMS). It is a co-educational institution, founded with the aim to abolish private tuitions for Advanced Level (A-level) as they were expensive. In 2000, Ordinary Level (O-level) was introduced, and later junior classes were started as well. The school is popularly known for its A level programme.

Formation & Structure

The school was established by the founders/owners of CAMS in 1996. Shehzad Chamdia is the Chairman of CAMS & Avicenna School, who is also on the board of directors of Karachi Stock Exchange. Adil Butt is the Chief Executive Officer and Barrister Rizwan Akhund is the Executive Director. Other directors of the school are:-

Subjects & Courses

Avicenna School is only one of the few schools who give tuitions for almost all of the subjects in Karachi. School has five groups which are:-

*Commerce & Business Group

*Social Sciences & Humanities Group
*Law Group
*Arts Group

General Paper in compulsory for all students opting for any of the group. As per School rule students are required to take at least three subjects and maximum of four in addition to General Paper. School offers tuitions in the following subjects:-

Modules

*24 Month Course: It is the normal course for A Levels which is taken by approximately 80% of the school's students.
*10 Month Course: Taken by some of the students of the school. Subjects offered in this module are Accelerated Mathematics, Accelerated Accounting, Accelerated Business Management and General Paper. Exams are taken in May/June session.
*12 Month Course: Almost all subjects are offered in this module. Exams are taken in October/November session.

Extra Curricular Activities

The School offers some of the best learning modules as a part of its co-curricular activities. The modules are optional and students are accommodated on first come first serve basis due to limited seats.

Students are required to choose one module from the learning modules mentioned below.

*Horse Riding
*Taekwando

At the end of the academic sessions members of the group are awarded certificates.

Other Activities

The School also has different clubs and societies for its students. The societies are run entirely by students. Some of the societies are:-

*Student Council: The Student Council consists of 12 members which are A2's (second year students), 6 male students and 6 female students. Student Council is chosen by Principal, Coordinator and the board of directors. In the month of September Head Boy, Head Girl, Deputy-Head Boy and Deputy-Head Girl are elected by both the A1 (first year students) and A2 students. The Council is responsible for imposing and carrying out disciplinary affairs in the school.

*Music & Entertainment Society: The society consists of musicians in the school who carry out entertainment programmes at school functions and events.

*Charity & Social Services Society: The society carries out fund raising, volunteering and other social works for the poor and those who are in need of financial resources.

*Debate & Literature Society: Inter-house debates are held monthly in school. This society is also responsible for publishing the Yearbook, the official school magazine.

*Dramatics Society: The newest addition to the school's club activity called Thespianz Theater Society of Avicenna. The society is jointly managed by the students of school and Faisal Malik (Napa Graduate in Performing Arts)

Modest System

Unlike other schools the students of Avicenna School have the advantage of modest fees and mixed environment. Students of all type of family structure, class, background are admitted irrespective of their religion, caste and creed. The School is also well known for its peaceful environment Fact|date=July 2007. Merit scholarships are awarded on the basis of O Level results and the academic potential. Financial and need-based scholarships are offered to those students who are unable to pay the school fees. Applying for financial scholarship at the Avicenna School does not deter one's admission to the school.
