Sri Lanka's longest river Mahaweli runs just beside Ranabima Royal College, adding up to the tranquility of its surroundings.

Dividos sanctuary is located just beside Ranabima Royal College in Gannoruwa mountains. It gives enormous amount of exploration opportunities for our students. Royal botanical garden and university of Peradeniya are also situated near the college. Agricultural research facilities in Gannoruwa of the department of agriculture are also located beside Ranabima Royal College.

Its only 15 minutes drive away from the city of Kandy. and about 4 km away from the city of Peradeniya. New Colombo - Kandy highway runs 50-60 meters away from the college providing easy access to this calm and naturally wealthy environment.

History

Ranabima Royal College was founded by Mr. W.M.P.B. Dissanayake, former chief minister of central provincial council and Mr. Palitha Elkaduwa, former Secretary of Central province Department of Education.

Opened in 1996 by the provincial council governor Mr. Stanley Thilakarathne on March 2nd, the day of commemoration of the signing of the kandyan treaty by King Rajasinghe II.

The land which is being selected to build the school has its own historical value. Sri Lankans have many victorious memories over many invading enemies on this land hence taken the name "jaya bima" (land of victories).

The idea behind establishing such a school was originated by Mr. Palitha Elkaduwa. He had devoted his time and skills in making his dream a success. The main idea behind establishing this school, according to Mr. Elkaduwa was to provide students from rural parts of central province with a high quality education and to increase the understanding among different ethnic groups.

This is the only school in sri lanka where all the students are selected from an admission test which all the students from central province can participate.

First principal of Ranabima Royal College was Mr. S.M. Keerthirathne. The first academic staff for the college was comprised of 16 members who were selected through a qualification test.

There were 320 students at the start of the college. 240 Sinhala medium students and 80 Tamil medium students.

Student of Ranabima Royal College sat for ordinary level exam for the first time in history in year 2000 and showed the success of this special project gaining 100% results.

It was in year 2003 that the students of rrc sat for advanced level examination for the first time. Since then Students have shown great results.

Resource Development and protecting Society

Foundation

The situation created by the principal's post being vacant. (After the first principal's transfer.)Non availability of resources to commence Advanced Level classes. To fulfill the need of an Old Boys association.

Aims

As no government sponsorship could be obtained for school resource development the need rigid of contribution. As a novel model school, the need to participate in all activities until such time that an old boys association is formed.

Commencement

Temporary parents meeting took place at the Hindu Cultural Hall on the 16 June 2001. Inaugural committee meeting took place on 30 June 2001.

=Achievements= Supplying desks and chairs for advance level classes.Completing windows and doors of the laboratory building and attending to other short comings in the buildings.Obtaining a bus for the college.Providing the staff with parking area for vehicles.Providing an internal Communication system.Providing a flight of steps for the gymnasium.Organizing a teacher awarding ceremony.

Entrance examination

Entrance examination for Ranabima Royal College is a highly competitive examination which is conducted by the Central province education department where only the students from central province can participate. This is the only way in which students can get the admission for Ranabima Royal College.

Wild life Foundation - WLF

Wild life foundation of Ranabima Royal College was started in 1999 with the guidance of Mr: C.G. Alagalla.The enthusiastic nature lovers, soon gather around the society. The main purpose of the society was to improve the students knowledge about Nature while exploring the richest biodiversity of Sri Lanka. The members of the first committee converted the society in to one of the leading school nature club of the island.In the year 2002 WLF had organized their innogural Inter school exploration contest "Esprite de Nature" at the dividos mountain range.

Astronomical & Space Science Society

A3S of RRC is one of the leading societies in the college as well as in its field. It dominates from other schools considerably because of its wide knowledge in the field of Astronomy & it's widely known activities. With this society our main target is to develop the Astronomical Knowledge among our fellow students, regardless of what society or what school they are in!. We try to promote Astronomy in to every single aspect we can & we provide fellow students a more practical approach to the subject of Astronomy!Keeping that in our mind, every event we have organized before has been for the good will of that aim !, and We are proud to say that, we have succeeded in establishing our own sort of events, including different sort of quizzes, different practical approaches etc..!

*In year 2006, Ranabima Royal College Celebrated it's 10th Anniversary.
*In year 2005 Advanced level examinations Y.L.B. Karunarathna placed 1st in Kandy district.
*In year 2006 T.K.W.S.J. Kelekorala placed 1st at Aeronautics quiz competition organized by Asian Aviation Center and he won a scholarship to follow an Aerospace Engineering course offered by Kinston University UK
