Andersonstown News

The Andersonstown News (sometimes called The Andytown News) is twice-weekly published (Mondays and Thursdays) Belfast, Northern Ireland newspaper, which focuses on news and issues, especially in West Belfast.

Its stablemates, the "North Belfast News" and "South Belfast News", are published weekly. The group also publishes the daily Irish language title "Lá Nua" (meaning "New Day"), and has shares in the "Lucan Gazette".

According to the Audit Bureau of Circulations, the "Andersonstown News" has an average circulation of 8,457 for the Monday edition [http://www.abc.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=nav/abcdata&c=&o=&menuid=abcdata|qdsearch|bytitle&type=ind&ref=11008|29122003|02012005] and 16,453 for the Thursday edition [http://www.abc.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=nav/abcdata&c=&o=&menuid=abcdata|qdsearch|bytitle&type=ind&ref=10492|29122003|02012005] .

The "Andersonstown News" launched a new All-Ireland newspaper "Daily Ireland" in January 2005, which closed 20 months later in September 2006. The "Andersonstown News" takes an Irish republican editorial stance.

In March 2008, the paper's long-standing 'Squinter' column sharply criticised Gerry Adams over high levels of violent crime in West Belfast , following the murder of former IRA prisoner Bap McGreevy by teenaged hoodlums. A week later, the news paper published a front page apology for carrying the story and the column was removed from the Squinter blog.

The newspaper was satirised in the "Portadown News" website as "The Angrytown News". The Andersonstown News contacted the employers of "Newton Emerson" (the creator of "Portadown News") with a list of exaggerated complaints about the site - resulting in Mr Emerson being forced out of his job [ [http://www.guardian.co.uk/Northern_Ireland/Story/0,2763,625836,00.html "Guardian", Outed satirist is forced to resign] ] .
