- Alfonso Chase
Alfonso Chase was born in
Cartago ,Costa Rica in 1944, and is a contemporary Costa Rican author. He was educated inCosta Rica ,Mexico and theUnited States , and hispoetry andnarrative have been published since 1966. He has received numerous awards for his writing, including thePremio Nacional de Poesía twice, in 1967 and 1995, thePremio Nacional de la Novela in 1968 and thePremio Nacional de Cuento in 1975; he has also been awarded thePremio Carmen Lyra, de Literatura Infantil y Juvenil forchildren's literature in 1978. As well as representingCosta Rica in several international committees, he founded theDepartment of Publications ofCosta Rica 'sMinistry of Culture, Youth and Sports in 1970. He has worked at theUniversidad Nacional inHeredia since 1974, and was namedFulbright Scholar in Residence at theUniversity of Arkansas -Fayetteville in theUnited States in 1991-92.Bibliography
