* [http://thesurgens.co.uk ] The Surgens are a wonderfully warped collision of the finest, worst and most cynical twisted music of the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s, somehow hot welded together in Beefheart like arrangements to create a raucous retro tinged concoction of dirty old rock’n’roll, country, blues and surf that make them sound like they’ve “fallen straight out of a Tarantino movie” (Blues Matters Magazine).

Wielding old guitars, harmonicas and lap steels screaming through 50’s amplifiers to the back drop of musical saws and unmusical washboards, deep twang and rumbling drums it’s no surprise that The Organ magazine have described * [http://thesurgens.co.uk ] The Surgens as “A kind of White Stripes for Captain Beefheart fans who like their country blues a little twisted and scuffed around the edges” and Sleazegrinder have likened the band to “the house band on that Mississippi steamer drinking on the Devils tab"

Although * [http://thesurgens.co.uk ] The Surgens clearly draw their influences from artists as diverse as Hank Williams, Gene Vincent, Dick Dale, Howling Wolf as well as the likes of The Pixies and Tom Waits they have managed to create a sound that Mark Lamarr has described as “Absolutely magnificent” and “Truly Unique”.

In the short space of 18 months * [http://thesurgens.co.uk ] The Surgens have been busy building a loyal following and have supported some great artists such as Jawbone, The Dead Brothers, Billy Childish, The Soledad Brothers, and David Viner to name a few and have been one of the bands at the forefront of the exciting alternative blues and country scene that has been emergent in the UK and Europe.

Now, having notched up national radio airplay on shows like Radio 2's The Jonathon Ross show and have recently recorded a session on Mark Lamarr’s Radio 2 show, purely on the strength of a demo, The Surgens are now about to release their long awaited debut album "Songs of Sadness, Misery and Abuse" together with limited edition 7” vinyl single “The Wolfman”.
