The Borough of Aberconwy was one of five districts ofGwynedd , north-westWales , from 1974 to 1996.It was formed under the
Local Government Act 1972 , onApril 1 ,1974 from parts of the administrative counties ofCaernarfonshire and Denbighshire.From Caernarvonshire came the
municipal borough of Conway, theurban district s ofBetws-y-Coed ,Llandudno ,Llanfairfechan andPenmaenmawr , and theNant Conway Rural District .From Denbighshire came the
urban district ofLlanrwst , and the parishes ofEglwysbach ,Llanddoged ,Llanrwst Rural ,Llansantffraid Glan Conwy andTir Ifan . The parishes had been part of therural district s of Aled and Hiraethog.The district was abolished in 1996, with its area passing to the unitary
county borough of Aberconwy and Colwyn, shortly afterwards renamed Conwy. However, some council services are still split into Aberconwy and Colwyn districts such as theregistration of births, deaths and marriages .
