The Longford Senior Football Club Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association club competition between the Senior grade clubs in Longford. The winners of the Longford Championship qualify to represent their county in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship and in turn, go on to the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. The current Longford champions are Colmcille, who defeated Longford Slashers by 0-13 to 0-7 in the final.
Top Winners
Please note that the modern day version of clubs are used and therefore there may be an overlap of two existing clubs. Longford Slashers's 20 wins include wins by Longford Shamrocks (1896), Longford Leo Caseys (1904 and 1905), Longford Wanderers (1922, 1923, 1944 and 1947). Longford Slashers were formed in the early 50s with Longford Wanderers merging with Whiterock Slashers.
Fr. Manning Gaels is the club for the parish of Drumlish (which includes the village of Ballinamuck). Gaels' title count here include wins by Drumlish (1927, 1928, 1932, 1937, 1939, 1940, 1943, 1946, 1945), Young Irelands (1951), Éire Óg (1953, 1955).
Longford's senior championship had rocky beginnings and there was no formal competition in the years 1891-1895, 1897-1903, 1906, 1908-1910, 1914, 1916, 1918, 1921, 1924 and 1926.
The final of 1925 between Granard and Mullinalaghta was abandoned and no title was awarded.
