Almirida

Almirida is a resort located in the Apokoronas region of the northwest coast of the island of Crete, Greece. The village is approximately 25 kilometers from Chania, in Chania Prefecture. Traditionally a fishing village Almirida has a long beach that is popular with families. Wind surfers, kayaks, paddle boats and beach chairs can be rented on the beach. There are many hotels, rental rooms, taverns, bars, snack and cafe bars, gift shops, grocery stores and bakeries, all of which are open late into the night in the tourist season. See photographs of Almirida at [http://www.plotperfect.com/villagealmirida.html ] Almirida is famous for its delicious food, as well as for the shallow waters, ideal for children.

One more interesting thing about the place is that people from 35 different nationalities live there all year round in a sum of population of about 400 residents, local Cretans included. The different nationalities are English, Irish, Scottish, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Belgian, German, French, Italian, Swiss, Dutch, Hungarian, Serb, FYROMacedonian, Albanian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Czechoslovakian, Slovakian, Polish, Ukrainian, Russian, Moldavian, New Guinean, Sri Lankan, US citizens, Australian, New Zealander, Jamaican, Morrocan, Tunisian, Egyptian, Algerian and Syrian (at least one person of each nationality). Almirida also has numerous Wi-Fi spots, as the multicultural crowd created the need for communication with the rest of the world. Almirida had applied for the Guinness Book of Records as the most multi-ethnic village on planet Earth.
