Friends & Enemies

Friends & Enemies

"Friends & Enemies" was a telenovela planned for the American television network MyNetworkTV. [http://www.mediaweek.com/mw/news/spotlight/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1002503467] Twentieth Television was developing this limited-run serial. It was based on the 2001 TV Azteca series "Como En El Cine" ("Like in the Movies").

Story

This romantic melodrama featured a gorgeous young dancer who lives a double life to put her sister through school. She pretends to be a psychiatrist, then falls madly in love with a handsome patient. The two grow close as he recovers from the death of his twin brother and the blackmailing of his mother.

They begin a steamy affair, until his family uncovers the secret and reveals her other identity. This leads to intrigue, heartbreak, and betrayal. When a baby arrives, tensions rise even higher, as confusion and misunderstanding test the strength of true love.

Development

Originally, the show was developed for syndication under the "Desire" umbrella title. MyNetworkTV then planned to run the serial for 65 hour-long episodes, airing weekday evenings, with a recap on Saturdays. It was to be filmed at Stu Segall Productions in San Diego.

It was set to premiere on June 5, 2007, then postponed. MyNetworkTV's March 1, 2007 announcement that it stopped developing scripted content spelled an end for both the series and the network's slate of telenovelas.
