Julius Marshuetz Mayer (
September 5 ,1865 New York City -November 20 ,1925 New York City ) was an Americanlawyer and politician.Life
He attended the
College of the City of New York andColumbia Law School before beginning a career in private practice in New York. During his years as a lawyer, Mayer also served as counsel to various state agencies. In January 1902, he was appointed to the Court of Special Sessions by MayorSeth Low to fill a vacancy, and was re-appointed to a full term of ten years in July 1903, but he resigned as of December 30, 1903 to resume the practice of law.He was
New York State Attorney General from 1905 to 1906. He was a delegate to the 1904 and1908 Republican National Convention s.In 1912, President
William Howard Taft appointed Mayer a judge of theUnited States District Court for the Southern District of New York . In 1921, PresidentWarren G. Harding promoted him to serve as anappellate judge on theUnited States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit . Mayer served on the Second Circuit for only three years, and resigned on July 31, 1924, to return to private practice, but died the following year.ources
