Barry Martin Smith (born 19 February, 1974 in Paisley) is a Scottish footballer who currently plays in defence for Valur in the Icelandic Landsbankadeild.

Smith began his career with Scottish Premier League side Celtic. He made his debut aged 17 and played 22 games, including two Old Firm, between 1991-1995. He then joined fellow Scottish side Dundee, where he made his name. Smith was made Club Captain in 1997, the same year they achieved promotion to the Premier Division. After playing with the Dens Park side for ten-and-a-half seasons, where he made 359 appearances, Smith reached his testimonial year. As is the custom there were various golf outings and dinners to mark this achievement. In 2006 Smith also took on the role of joint caretaker manager for the final two games of that season. Smith then transferred to Icelandic outfit Valur who finished third in 2006 and won the Icelandic Premier Division in 2007, their first championship in 20 years. During his career he has played in the right back, centre back, and defence midfield roles.

Smith joined Partick Thistle on loan in January 2007, making 18 appearances and scoring one goal before returning for Valur's new season.

He signed for Greenock Morton on loan in January 2008 and is currently back playing for Valur F.C.
