Ban Kha ( _th. บ้านคา) is a district ("Amphoe") in the western part of Ratchaburi Province, central Thailand.

History

Due to the large area of Suan Phueng district the government split the southern part of Suan Phueng to create a minor district ("King Amphoe") becoming effective July 1st, 1997 [cite journal|journal=Royal Gazette|volume=114|issue=Special 51 ง|pages=16|title=ประกาศกระทรวงมหาดไทย เรื่อง แบ่งเขตท้องที่อำเภอสวนผึ้ง จังหวัดราชบุรี ตั้งเป็นกิ่งอำเภอบ้านคา|url=http://www.ratchakitcha.soc.go.th/DATA/PDF/2540/E/051/16.PDF|date=June 25 1997|language=Thai] . The present district office was opened on March 29th, 1999.

Following a decision of the Thai government on May 15 2007, all of the 81 minor districts were to be upgraded to full districts [cite news|url=http://www.manager.co.th/Politics/ViewNews.aspx?NewsID=9500000055625|publisher=Manager Online|title=แถลงผลการประชุม ครม. ประจำวันที่ 15 พ.ค. 2550|language=Thai] . With the publishing in the Royal Gazette on August 24 the upgrade became official [cite journal|journal=Royal Gazette|volume=124|issue=46 ก|pages=14–21|title=พระราชกฤษฎีกาตั้งอำเภอฆ้องชัย...และอำเภอเหล่าเสือโก้ก พ.ศ. ๒๕๕๐|url=http://www.ratchakitcha.soc.go.th/DATA/PDF/2550/A/046/14.PDF|date=August 24 2007|language=Thai] .

Geography

Neighboring districts are (from the north clockwise) Suan Phueng, Chom Bueng and Pak Tho of Ratchaburi Province, and Nong Ya Plong of Phetchaburi Province. To the west is Tanintharyi Division of Myanmar.

The important water resource is the Phachi River. On the left shore of the river the Chaloem Phra Kiat Thai Prachan National Park is in process of being established, extending into neighboring Pak Tho district.

Administration

The district is subdivided into 3 subdistricts ("tambon"), which are further subdivided into 35 villages ("muban"). There are no municipal ("thesaban") areas in the district, and three Tambon administrative organizations (TAO).
