Steve Armitage (born in
High Wycombe ,Buckinghamshire ,England ) is an English-bornCanadian sports reporter forCBC Sports . He has covered such events asHockey Night in Canada , theCanadian Football League andGrey Cup , theOlympics , and theWorld Cup of Football .Armitage won the 1982
ACTRA Foster Hewitt Award for Excellence in Sports Broadcasting and he was nominated for aGemini Award in 1998 for his coverage ofspeed skating at the Winter Olympics .Armitage who never cracked the top tier of sport broadcasters in Canada was given the task of broadcasting CBC Saturday afternoon bowling,equestrian and diving competitions as well as coverage of the Special Olympics, some reports actually have Armitage competing at the 1976 Special Olympic games. Known for often being the first to get a post game interview with athletes, rumor has it that he achieved this by often shoving fans out of his way.
Armitage attended
Saint Mary's University, Halifax where he played football quarterback. He grew up inDartmouth, Nova Scotia .Armitage will be one of the two play-by-play announcers (the other being Nigel Reed) announcing for CBC Sports in the
