"Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart" (sometimes simply called "Trippin' on a Hole") is a song by Stone Temple Pilots, featured on their third album, "Tiny Music... Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop".

Composition and meaning

The core music was actually written by the band's drummer Eric Kretz, while the lyrics were written by Scott Weiland. Although many fans have different interpretations of the lyrics, Weiland directly stated in a radio interview that the very ambiguous and mysterious lyrics to the song actually alluded to a "very bad experience dropping acid."

Music video

The music video is made up of various shots. They include the band in front of a Mighty Joe Young statue (Mighty Joe Young was their original name), the band jumping on a trampoline, and singer Scott Weiland singing in slow motion.

Awards and accolades

The band has had six songs reach the number one position on the Mainstream Rock Tracks, "Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart" was the last song by the band to reach the top. In 1997, it was nominated for Best Hard Rock Performance at the Grammy Awards, an award the band won in 1994 for the song "Plush," but lost out to the Smashing Pumpkins', "Bullet with Butterfly Wings."
