It was created onJanuary 1 ,1999 as a result of the Local Government Reorganization Act of 1998. Its administrative seat and largest town isKłobuck , which lies convert|75|km|mi|0 north of the regional capitalKatowice . The only other town in the county isKrzepice , lying convert|16|km|mi|0|abbr=on west of Kłobuck.The county covers an area of convert|889.15|km2|sqmi|1. As of 2006 its total population is 84,730, out of which the population of Kłobuck is 13,193, that of Krzepice is 4,524, and the rural population is 67,013.
