The station, formerly WMYJ with an adult-contemporary format, was purchased by Bob Winters (WinCapp Broadcasting) over the summer of 1989. The format switch to country happened at noon on September 11, 1989. WXTA was sold to Media One in 1997, Regent Communications in 1999, and Citadel Communications in 2004.
