István Avar ( _ro. Ştefan Auer) (May 30, 1905 – October 15, 1977) was a Hungarian footballer and a legend of Újpest FC, most famous for playing for the Hungarian national team in the 1934 World Cup. He was born in Arad, Transylvania, now part of Romania, having become part of Romania in 1918.

After 1941, he became the player-manager of Kaposvári Rákóczi. He died in Kaposvár.
