Humpolec (IPA2|ˈɦʊmpolɛts; German: "Gumpolds" or "Humpoltz") is a town in the Vysočina Region of the Czech Republic, situated south-east of Prague and roughly halfway between the Czech capital and Brno, on the northwestern edge of the Bohemian-Moravian highlands ("Českomoravská Vrchovina").

Humpolec was founded at the beginning of the 13th century, becoming a town status some 100 years later. Humpolec is birthplace of Aleš Hrdlička, well-known American anthropologist, Jan Zábrana, one of the greatest Bohemian writers and translators of 20th century, Ivan Martin Jirous, poet, underground writer and member of anticommunist opposition.
