It was created onJanuary 1 ,1999 as a result of the Local Government Reorganization Act of 1998. Its administrative seat is the city ofGrudziądz , although the city is not part of the county (it constitutes a separate city county). The only towns in Grudziądz County areŁasin , which lies convert|21|km|mi|0|abbr=on east of Grudziądz, andRadzyń Chełmiński , convert|16|km|mi|0|abbr=on south-east of Grudziądz.The county covers an area of convert|728.39|km2|sqmi|1. As of 2006 its total population is 38,424, out of which the population of Łasin is 3,276, that of Radzyń Chełmiński is 1,915, and the rural population is 33,233.
