Chrysanthemum (book)

Chrysanthemum (ISBN 0-688-09699-9) is the title of a 1991 children's picture book by the American writer and illustrator Kevin Henkes. The plot deals with a young mouse named Chrysanthemum, who loves her name until classmates tease her about it. However, a pregnant teacher (called Delphinium) defends her and her family comfort her. At the end of the story, the teacher gives birth to a girl and decides to name her Chrysanthemum too.

Chrysanthemum was chosen as an ALA Notable Book and the School Library Journal Best Book of the Year, and it is on the Horn Book Fanfare Honor List. [1]
