Allen and Helen Mains Elementary School

Allen and Helen Mains Elementary School is located in Calexico, California, Imperial County. Imperial County is located in the extreme southeastern desert region of California.

Mains Elementary School is a K-6 school with an average enrollment of 509 students. Ninety eight percent of the students attending Mains School are Hispanic. According to the 2004 R-30 report, eighty two percent of the students, or 419 are classified as English Learners.

Migrant students make up sixteen percent of the population at Mains Elementary School. This number of students is quite significant when compared to other schools in the district. Services for migrant students are provided by ensuring that all students have access to the adopted curriculum in all content areas. In addition, students with specific academic needs are met through the services of a part-time and student aide employed at Mains Elementary School. They provide one to one and small group instructions. Local assessments are used to monitor progress and identify specific needs. Migrant students are also provided with services through the Student Study Team that monitors student progress when a concern is identified by teacher or parent.
