Previous = 1978The 1979 World Championship for Makes season was the 27th season of the FIA World Sportscar Championship. This series was open to Group 1 and 2 Touring Cars, Group 3 and 4 Grand Touring cars, and Group 5 Special Production Cars, although points were determined by engine sizes. The championship ran from February 3, 1979 to September 16, 1979, and consisted of nine rounds.
