electric multiple unit s used onParis 's Métro system, and is the oldest type still in regular passenger service. They was first introduced in 1963 when the busiest routes of Lines 1 and 4 where converted to rubber tyred pneumatic operation. 52 trains operated on Line 1, and they were refurbished between 1989 and 1992 in readiness for the extension of Line 1 to La Defense. 22 of these refurbished cars were transferred to Line 11 from 1995 after the delivery of the newerMP 89 to Line 1.
