Jacob Burnet (
February 22 ,1770 -May 10 ,1853 ) was an American jurist and statesman fromOhio .He was born in
Newark, New Jersey onFebruary 22 1770 , the son of William Burnet. He studied law, moved to theNorthwest Territory and settled in Cincinnati in 1796. His brotherDavid G. Burnet was one of the early politicians in theRepublic of Texas .Jacob Burnet was an associate justice on the
Ohio Supreme Court from 1821 to 1828, and U.S. Senator from 1828 to 1831. His "Notes on the Early Settlement of the Northwest Territory" is a primary reference on the early Northwest.He died in Cincinnati on
May 10 1853 , aged 83, and is buried in theSpring Grove Cemetery there.External links
