The Augsburger Puppenkiste is a
marionette theater inAugsburg ,Germany .The
Premiere of their first ever show was the fairy tale "Der gestiefelte Kater" (the Puss in Boots). It became famous throughout Germany from 1953, when its productions were filmed and broadcasted on television. Regularly, a new fairy tale was produced for television to be shown in Advent Season.The theatre was founded by Walter and Rose Oehmichen. It has remained a family concern, being taken over by their daughter Hannelore and her husband Hans Marschall. It is currently managed by Walters grandchildren, Klaus and Jürgen Marschall.
The most well known stars of the Puppenkiste are Jim Knopf (1961/1962, 1976/1977) and Urmel (1969/1974). Today, programs of the Augsburger Puppenkiste are still broadcast on television, mainly as special features. The current long running television series is "Baer Ralphie" who travels all over Bavaria (Bayern) investigating how businesses work and explaining it to children. Their "performances" are regularly sold out - even for the weeks to follow. The highlight of every year is the "Kabarett" which is premiered every New Years Eve and runs until the end of the season in June. It is a fantastic festival of comedy, dance, art and a satirical look at current affairs. The premier of this performance is attended by many important local figures and the tickets are sold out well in advance.
