AFC Ajax in the 1983/1984 season as substitute forHans Galjé , and became the club's first choice for goalkeeper from the start of the 1985/86 season. ManagerJohan Cruyff believed that Menzo was one of the first goalies who could also make his mark as a field player.Menzo lost his place in the starting line up to
Edwin van der Sar in the 1992/93 season, after a 4-2 loss in theUEFA Cup match againstAJ Auxerre . In this match Menzo scored an own goal and was the cause of another goal.In 1994, he moved toPSV Eindhoven . In 1996 he moved to the Belgian clubLierse S.K. . WithLierse S.K. Menzo won theBelgian Cup and the national title.In 1997 he then joined French team
Girondins de Bordeaux , to replace Gilbert Bodart. He was later replaced byUlrich Ramé who was to become Bordeaux's goalkeeper until now. As a consequence Menzo moved back to Lierse in January 1998.In the summer of 2001, Menzo joined amateur club
AGOVV Apeldoorn . When their coachPeter Bosz left at the end of the season, Menzo became player-manager. He remained in this position for only one season: AGOVV was promoted to theEerste Divisie and became a professional club, but Menzo did not have the qualifications to become coach in that league. He moved to Amsterdam-based amateur club AFC. When former teammateMarco van Basten became head coach of theNetherlands national football team , Menzo became the team's goalkeeper's coach.In February 2005, Menzo received the diplomas necessary to coach professional clubs. That summer, he returned as head manager of AGOVV Apeldoorn. A year later, Menzo became manager for
FC Volendam and resigned as goalkeeper's coach of the Netherlands national football team.External links
