Power duo

Power duo is a name sometimes given to two-piece rock bands consisting of just an electric guitarist and a drummer, particularly those who follow a similar blues rock style to a traditional power trio, for example the White Stripes and the Black Keys. A power duo can be described as "a power trio without the bassist". This can be overcome however, as Scott Lucas from the band Local H (also a Power Duo) has a bass pickup installed in his guitar, running to a separate bass amplifier. This allows him to play guitar and bass as well as sing at the same time. Another way to overcome the limitation is through the use of octave dividers and pitch shifters, most notably done by Jack White of The White Stripes on such songs as The Hardest Button to Button and Seven Nation Army. Alternatively a Power Duo can consist of only keyboard and guitar (the keyboard keeping rhythm and bass while occasionally taking solos).
