Independent Publisher Book Award

Independent Publisher Book Award

The Independent Publisher Book Awards (IPPY), launched in 1996, are designed to bring increased recognition to titles published by independent authors and publishers. Previous winners of the IPPY Award include Jeffrey Lewis for "Meritocracy: A Love Story", Matthew Sharpe for "The Sleeping Father", and Leif Enger for "Peace Like a River", Dave Eggers for "What is the What", Jim Harrison for The Beast God Forgot to Invent, and Corey Redekop for "Shelf Monkey"

1,500 publishers participated in the 2006 Awards, and entries came in from all 50 U.S. states and Washington D.C., seven Canadian provinces, and 14 countries overseas. 2006 awards went out to authors and publishers from 48 U.S. states, six Canadian provinces, and five countries overseas, and a large percentage of them were self-published or P.O.D. published.

The 2008 contest attracted 3,175 total entries, with over 2,500 entries in the national categories and over 600 entries in the regional competition. Books came from 49 U.S. states, Washington D.C., and U.S. Virgin Islands; nine Canadian provinces, and 16 countries around the world: Trinidad to Thailand, Croatia to Czech Republic, and France to Finland.
